Standardsandaccreditationprovideaframeworkoftrustformarketingandpurchasing goodsandservices.Incompetitiveandopenmarkets,bothgovernmentandbusinessrely ontrusttoensureafairexchangeofsafegoodsandservices.Theessentialaspectof accreditationisthatitunderpinsthisconfidencebecauseitisavalidmeansofverifying claimsaboutquality,performance,andcompetence.Withtheglobalizationnotonlyof trade,butofmanyotherissuessuchasclimatechangeandenvironmentalprotection, securityandhealth,trustmustbeachievedglobally.TheuseofISOInternational StandardsasthereferencecriteriaforaccreditationandthedevelopmentoftheILACand IAFMLAsarethereforekeytobuildingtrustacrossbordersandpromotingbestpractices inconformityassessmentworldwide. Thosehavingrequirementsfortheassessmentofcomplianceofproductsandservices, whetherintheregulatedareasorforprivatetransactions,havecometorecognisethe importanceofcredibleaccreditationprogramsthatarebasedoninternationally recognisedstandardsandsubjecttomutualrecognition.Withrestrictedbudgets,many governmentagenciescannolongerdoitallthemselves;increasingly,theymustrelyon accreditedconformityassessmenttosupporttheirregulatorypolicies.Accreditation basedonISOstandardsandILACandIAFMLAsprovidesthatandassistsinmeeting thecommitmentstakeninthecontextoftheWTOAgreementonTechnicalBarriersto Trade. |
